Assignment 9 - Web 3.0

After researching what web 3.0 will be like for some time, the plans for what is ahead looks quite promising. For example, web searches in Google will be much more efficient than ever. You will be able to type out entire sentences instead of just keywords to find what you are looking for. It does not stop there, your browser will also be able to learn more about you by the searches that you make on a daily basis in hopes that it will be able to provide you with suggestions automatically for anything that you want to do. Many experts are saying that while web 2.0 mainly uses the internet for results, web 3.0 will be like a giant organized database where information is pulled from. How they predict that this is going to work is that each user will have their own ‘profile’ based on what they search for and this will allow browsers to assist in suggesting things based on those results. So basically it will be similar to how Pandora tailors music to the user based on what kind of music they like or dislike but it will be for the entire internet. Another speculation is that web pages will no longer be based around html and instead they will be based around a completely new unnamed language. Some experts have already begun talking about what is beyond web 3.0. They say that web 4.0 is going to take everything much further and will be based around a three-dimensional environment. This means that users will have the choice to browse the web through a first person experience or you will be able to experience the web through a digital representation of yourself called an avatar. Experts predict that every single electronic device will come with internet capabilities which will cause people to constantly be connected to the internet, making it easier for browsers to get to know the user by electronically observing his/her activities.

Examples of RSS used in companies

So i was reading a few articles and came across some interesting ones. I came across this one in particular on zdnet.com. Its URL is here if you would like to read more: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/emergingtech/rss-for-companies/347. Anyways this article gave a few examples of how RSS can be useful to a company. RSS can be very useful in companies that have to constantly keep updated on whatever it is that helps them perform their job function. The example I found interesting was that a law firm used it to monitor what services a particular client is getting. That way, they can keep track of exactly what services that other attorneys in that law firm have already provided to the client. This made me realize that RSS can really be used pretty much anywhere. It is especially useful when you have a job that requires a lot of team work. With RSS, everyone keeps updated and stays "in the loop".

Amazon Fire TV

Hello again everyone! Well this week i got some good news for all of you amazon lovers. Amazon has
now come out with the Amazon Fire TV. For those of you that are familiar with streaming boxes like the roku, apple tv, and WD streaming player, the Amazon Fire TV will be one of the competitors. Some of the nice features that come built into this little boxes (besides the numerous apps that can be installed) are its snappy interface, and voice commands. The microphone for the voice commands is actually built right into the remote. The inputs include: 1 HDMI, 1 Optical audio out, 1 ethernet port, 1 usb port. All in all what REALLY sets this streaming box player apart from the rest is the ability to play many android based games. For this though you might want to consider buying the game controller that is sold separately ($40). This little box will definitely catch the attention of amazon prime members as they can stream thousands of titles at no additional cost. This option i think is good if you don't already have a device that streams content and do not want to pay for a game console to be able to do the same thing.

Microsoft Office for Ipad

Sooo i came across some information that I found to be VERY surprising, since most people are familiar with the MICROSOFT vs. APPLE feud. Microsoft has decided to release microsoft office for ipad in the app store. How this came about I have no idea since microsoft has always been so protective of their office product. They decided to make every office program into a separate app. So there is a separate app for (word, excel, powerpoint etc.). This is great news for people that own ipads since now they can pretty much turn their ipad into a laptop, all you would need to do is add a keyboard to it. Apple had a version of these apps before called Office Mobile for iPhone but this new version that was recently released offers much more features. Now the only downfall with this is that to unlock the full potential of these applications you do need to have a subscription to office 360. you do however get full access to OneDrive (a.k.a. 'skydrive') as well as the ability to read Word, excel and powerpoint files on the free version. Once you purchase the office 360 subscription you unlock the ability to create and edit documents. As for me i will stick to google docs as it is free for now. :)

Moto 360 Android Watch

This area of technology seems really interesting to me because I am a fan of new ideas as I am a firm believer in innovation. I admire people that can think outside the box and this little gadget proves to do just that. It is pretty much a phone that you can use as a watch. This little gadget can do much more than just tell time. Most of the details that have been revealed have left readers wanting to hear more but here are some of the things that we know so far. The "Moto 360" watch will be water resistant (this does not mean that you can go swimming with it), it is going to work well with the latest android 4.3 phones. It features NO charge port, so there will be a new way of charging this gizmo (Maybe a charging pad?). You will be able to talk to it to since it will have voice commands enabled to be used with google now. For those of you that are not familiar with google now it is essentially what "Siri" is on the iphone for google products. We do know that this watch will be available in the summer, however there is still on news on pricing. I am not much of a watch wearing kind of guy but this is something that i may consider.

For Windows 8 Users

Thinking about moving to Windows 8.1? or maybe you already made the switch and still can't get used to its new user interface. Well if you want to get the most out of your windows 8.1 system I just found a pretty cool way to do it WITHOUT having to go buy a touchscreen monitor. Logitech has come out with a touchpad (similar to what apple has for the iMac) that you can use to swipe between screens and navigate through windows 8 more easily. I recently build my computer and put windows 8.1 on it just because I like to become familiar with the latest technology but I am using a regular keyboard and mouse. I still like Windows 8.1 a lot so far. The only thing I don't really like is the lack of applications in the Windows store but that will change once more get added. Otherwise its pretty much like a PC/Big tablet that I can use for anything.

For all of you apple fans

Hello guys! well this week's post im going to focus on all of the products that apple will be unveiling. Now i'm going to be honest I don't really keep up on apple's products all that much but it was interesting to find out about some of the products that they will be releasing. First off they have refined iOS 7.1 (which is the latest operating system on iphones) They have changed the screen that displays an incoming phone call and they have refined the calendar view. They are currently working with 2 other companies to try to perfect their maps app since google no longer lets them use the google maps app. Apple is also going to release a new version of the apple TV featuring a camera on the front that will allow you to use hand gestures to swipe through music and movies. Hand gestures will also allow you to type on the keyboard; I can't wrap my head around how they propose this will work but I guess we will just have to wait and find out. The third thing that was mentioned is the touch less integration they will be adding into the new 2014 car models. Apple will also be working with pioneer to add the touch less controls to pioneers aftermarket units as well so it won't leave out the people that do not want to buy a new car just to get these features.

Vizio 4k TVs!

So this year CES 2014 was held here in Las Vegas, like it has been in many previous years. CES is an annual convention that is held here to promote the latest technology that is going to be revealed to consumers everywhere later in the year. Major companies promote technology such as New TVs, Tablets, App enabled vehicles, Internet enabled appliances and many many other gadgets. This year the 'theme' at CES seemed to be mobile technology. The biggest news to me was in the TV department this year. This was the most exciting news to me because lets face it, who DOESN'T like enjoying a movie on a stunningly beautiful display? Anyway, Vizio announced this year that their 4k resolution TVs will not only be sharp but very affordable. I say affordable because TVs in this resolution from other vendors such as samsung and LG will be FAR more pricey. For those of you who don't know what a 4k TV is, it is essentially a TV with 4 TIMES the resolution of a regular 1080p televison (which was the highest resolution we had at the time). It didn't take long for vizio to spill the news on pricing for these TVs which they are calling their P-series models. According to the verge "its consumer-grade P series lineup of 4K TVs will start at only $999.99 for a 50-inch model." The TV will be released later this year and there is no news on an exact date that I could find. Now, the only downfall with buying a 4k TV right now is that there currently isn't very many content available that will allow you to take advantage of that vibrant, amazingly sharp display. Netflix however, has announced that all of the shows that are being filmed by them (ex. House of Cards) will be filmed in 4k. This means that pretty soon everyone else will jump on board with filming movies and shows in this resolution.
